From Inanna and Ebih by Enheduanna, c. 2350 BC.
Enheduanna was a priestess and author in ancient Sumeria. She was the first poet to sign their work. Her temple hymns tell of Inanna, the head of the Sumerian pantheon. Yes, God was a woman.
The headdress Inanna is wearing is borrowed from Queen Puabi, at the Penn Museum. Since Queen Puabi's inscriptions make no mention of a husband, she is assumed to have been queen in her own right.
